At Potter Brompton Carr this morning there were 9 Shoveler, 22 Wigeon, 40+ Teal, 55 Lapwing, 7 Golden Plover and a Barn Owl. Another Barn Owl was seen at Scalby Lodge pond, plus 26 Curlew and 2 Shelduck. A
Jack Snipe was at Taylor Way, and 10 Tufted Duck and a Little Grebe were at Seamer Tip pool, plus a pair of Shelduck later in the day. At Seamer Road Mere there were 3 Little Grebes, a pair of Teal, 17 Tufted Duck, a Goosander and a
Water Rail. 5 Pink-footed Geese were with Greylags south of Wykeham Lakes. Also at the lakes were 2 Goldeneye, 17 Cormorants and 28 Coot, and in the late afternoon 2 Egyptian Geese, 9 Goldeneye and 6 Oystercatchers. A Great Crested Grebe was spotted in Cornelian Bay and a Stonechat in the ravine. Harwood Dale Lake hosted 55 Wigeon, 2 Teal, 2 Shelduck, 5 Pink-footed Geese and 740 Common Gulls. At least 1100 more Common Gulls were present in several scattered flocks between Staxton and Scampston, with a
Red Kite also at the latter site. In Troutsdale this afternoon there were 4 Buzzards, 2 Sparrowhawks, 3
Goshawks and a Kestrel, while a
Red Kite was seen in Harwood Dale Forest.
