Monday 23rd March

Early this morning an Avocet flew north at Long Nab, and a single Sand Martin was seen at Wykeham South Lake. A Red Kite was seen along the A170 between Pickering and Thornton Dale, and another flew north inland of Long Nab. 5 Bottlenose Dolphins were spotted heading south off Marine Drive, and a Great Crested Grebe was off the harbour. Chiffchaffs were at Yedmandale Road and Stepney Drive, and one flew south at Long Nab, as did 184 Meadow Pipits, 4 White Wagtails and 74 Chaffinches, while 99 Jackdaws headed north. On the River Derwent a pair of Grey Wagtails were seen in Wrench Green, and a pair of Dippers and a Kingfisher were seen near Woodhouse. This afternoon 12 Oystercatchers and a Grey Heron were at Long Nab and 2 Stonechats were in the hedge north of the observatory there. On the flash next to the Cayton Bowling Club there was a pair of Shelduck, and this evening 589 Common Gulls and 534 Black-headed Gulls flew out east to roost over Valley Road.
