Monday 5th August

200 Common Scoter were seen heading north past Marine Drive this morning; 4 Willow Tits and 4+ Crossbills were seen/heard in Wykeham Forest; a Red Kite was over the east end of Seamer Tip; and 2 Teal were on Seamer Tip pool. A Hobby was spotted flying over Newby and one was also seen flying north-west at Long Nab. Other sightings at Long Nab included 573 Common Scoter, 2 Whimbrel and 2 Mediterranean Gulls all passing, plus 2 Stonechats behind the observation hut. 5 Bottlenose Dolphins were spotted half way between Filey and Scarborough. This evening 4 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover were at Scalby Mills before being pushed off by the tide. The Lithuanian-ringed Black-headed Gull, now 5 years old, is back at Seamer Road Mere for another winter, where 6 juvenile Tufted Ducks remain. 27 Swifts were over Moorland Road - still nesting at one location there.
