Tuesday 20th August

Early this morning a Spotted Flycatcher was in the hedge running inland from the Long Nab car park, and 5+ Willow Warblers were seen at Crook Ness. Just after 9am 4+ Minke Whales were feeding 2 miles ENE of Long Nab, 2 of which were still present 40 minutes later, and were finally last sighted at 10:20. Other highlights from Long Nab included 5 Whimbrel, a Bar-tailed Godwit, a Greenshank, and 3 Arctic Skuas all passing by, a Common Sandpiper on the rocks, and a Willow Tit still in the area. 2 Whinchats, a Wheatear and 2 Common Whitethroats were at Hundales, just north of Long Nab, and at midday a Marsh Harrier flew west over Burton Riggs. This afternoon a Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Buzzards, a Sparrowhawk and Crossbills were seen in Dalby Forest, while at Scalby Mills there were 11 Turnstone, a Dunlin, 9 Common Terns and a juvenile Lesser Black-backed Gull. This evening 20 Swifts were over Staxton, and 20 to 25 passed over Scarborough College and Oliver's Mount.
