Wednesday 17th March

The Chiffchaffs are arriving - 3 at Burton Riggs, 2 singing by the seacut near Mowthorpe, and 4 in at Long Nab. 3 Great Northern Divers were off the harbour mouth this morning, 2 of them moving as a pair with one vocalising. A Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3 Coot, 5 Goldeneye and 20 Tufted Ducks were at Scarborough Mere. 4 Lapland Buntings flew north at Long Nab, and a Great White Egret was at Wykeham South Lake where 26 Fiedfares flew high eastwards and a single Whooper Swan flew over. 30+ Kittiwakes were on the Spa Bridge this evening. A Scandinavian Rock Pipit was in South Bay and left north. 153 Redshank were on the rocks in Gristhorpe Bay just before high tide, along with 96 Oystercatchers, a Bar-tailed Godwit and 2 Grey Plover.
