Monday 1st March

A female Tawny Owl was calling from a rooftop in Woodall Avenue early this morning, one was calling on Stepney Road at midnight, a pair were heard in Ravenscar in the night, and another pair were heard in Manor Road Park. Sparrowhawks have been active over the council depot in the last few days. A couple of Oystercatchers flew east over Seamer Tip pool and a flock of about 30 Black-headed Gulls flew north. A Twite was among a flock of Linnets on Rocks Lane, and a second calendar year Mediterranean Gull flew south past Long Nab. A Great Northern Diver was in Burniston Bay, another was at Scalby Mills, and 4 were in South Bay together with a drake Common Scoter. A Goldeneye and a Goldcrest were at Burton Riggs and a Chiffchaff and 5 Long-tailed Tits were at Hutton Buscel. A pair of Stonechats, 2 Grey Plover, a Greenshank and a Bar-tailed Godwit were seen at gristhorpe Bay this afternoon. A male Blackcap was in a garden in Eastfield, where it has been seen on and off through February.
