Sunday 21st March
3 Chiffchaffs, a pair of Marsh Tits and a pair of displaying Sparrowhawk were at Harland Wood this morning, while 41 Fieldfares were in fields on the Sewamer side of the tip, and a Little Egret flew from the dyke on the eastern side. Along the river between Wrench Green and Hilla Green were 2 Dippers, a Kingfisher, 4 Grey Wagtails, 2 pairs of Mandarins, a pair of Kestrels and 3 Marsh Tits. 3 Yellowhammers, 2 Bullfinch and a Long-tailed Tit carrying nesting material were seen from Middle Lane, while 3 Buzzards were at Yedmandale and another pair flew from Bedale. 4 Chiffchaffs were at Burton Riggs, a Lapland Bunting flew north at Long Nab, and a Snipe was at Seamer Tip Pool. A pair of Peregrines were seen mating on Castle Headland. This afternoon a Buzzard, a Goshawk and 2 Treecreepers were at Bedale, a pair of Lapwings were at Great Moor Road, and a pair of Buzzards were seen over Limestone Road. A Barn Owl was hunting south of Crook Ness before flying over the cliff to be mobbed by a gull. A Green Woodpecker, 50+ Bramblings and 4 Crossbills were seen in the Dalby Haygate area.
