Friday 5th November

4 Willow Tits were seen/heard this morning along the valley between Wrench Green and Northstile. At Wykeham South Lake there were 5 Goldeneye, 5 Whooper Swans, 25 Tufted Duck, 76 Coots, 5 Great Crested Grebes and 57 Mallard, while at East Lake there were 32 Wigeon, 2 Goldeneye, 7 Teal, 2 Egyptian Geese with 2 young, 2 Great Crested Grebes and 2 Little Grebes. A Yellow-browed Warbler, a Chiffchaff and a Water Rail were in Cornelian Ravine, and a Knot was with other waders in Jackson's Bay. A Woodcock was seen at Spiker's Hill; 11 Fieldfare and 60+ Redwing were at Coverdale Moor; and Fieldfare and Redwing were heard calling above Hackness. 3 Buzzards and a Goshawk were in the Moor Dike area. Passing south through South Cliff this morning were 361 Siskins, a Mealy Redpoll, a Brambling, 2 Goldeneye and a Great Northern Diver, while another Great Northern Diver and a Goosander flew north. 6 Snow Buntings arrived in off the sea and flew north. About 250 Pink-footed Geese flew over Hutton Buscel mid-afternoon, 70 flew north over North Bay, and 200+ flew north over East Ayton.
