Wednesday 1st June

Three Honey Buzzards displaying this morning from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint showed exceptionally well and involved a male and two females. Three Great crested Grebes at Burton Riggs this morning constituted the first sighting of the species this year at that location. Two broods of two and seven or eight Gadwall were at Seamer Tip Pool. A Wood Warbler and three Spotted Flycatchers were at Turkey Carpet and a Spotted Flycatcher and three Blackcap fledglings were just upstream from Troutsdale bridge. A Turtle Dove and Great spotted Woodpecker were opposite the Mill Inn at Harwood Dale and a Barn Owl continued to show at Long Causeway, Wykeham. Nightjars were very active on such a perfect evening with at least five on the wing on Stony Marl Moor north of The Falcon Inn and three in the Sneaton Low Moor/May Beck area.
