Wednesday 31st March

A male Blackcap was seen near Wrench Green this morning, and a Chiffchaff and drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker were in Manor Road Park. 17 Whooper Swans flew north over Taylor Way (where a Jack Snipe was also present), and then passed Long Nab too, as did 2 other herds of 19 and 3. A Willow Warbler and Chiffchaffs were at Wykeham South Lake, along with 2 Mandarins, 4 Shoveler, 6 Goldeneye, 3 Gadwall, a Great White Egret, a female Common Scoter, 3 Buzzards, and 2 Little Ringed Plover, which then flew towards East Lake. 3+ Blackcaps were at Seamer Road Mere, a Water Rail is still in Cornelian Ravine, and a Red Kite was circling high above Castlegate in East Ayton. A pair of Peregrines and a Sparrowhawk where thermalling over the council yard. A Little Ringed Plover and a Lapland Bunting flew south past Long Nab, 88 Sand Martins passed north and 10 south, a Swallow flew north and another south, and 2 Wheatears were near Cliff Top House. 3 Wheatears and 5 Bramblings flew north at Gristhorpe Bay. 60+ Oystercatchers, 6 Redshank, a Curlew, 4 Cormorants and a Red-throated Diver were seen from the cliffs near the sewage works.A Chiffchaff was on Cockrah Road, a Yellowhammer, a Sparrowhawk and 2 Lapwing were at Middle Lane, and 3 Yellowhammers were at Ancat Farm.
