Thursday 7th May

A Hobby flew north past Gristhorpe Cliff early this morning, and later one was seen over Pindar School. A Common Sandpiper was at Peasholm Park Lake, and another was at Seamer Road Mere, where there was also a Sedge Warbler. Another Sedge Warbler was singing in a garden on Filey Road. A Quail was heard calling from Jackson's field (on the coast between Scalby Beck and Scalby Lodge Pond), and a Sparrowhawk went north over Old Middle Deepdale Farm. A Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Wheatears and a Fieldfare wee at Gristhorpe Cliff, where a Tree Pipit and 4 Yellow Wagtails were seen flying north. 6 Sandwich Terns and a Sanderling were in Cayton Bay, a Golden Plover was spotted on Southcliff Golf Course, and about 40 Swifts were feeding between the Esplanade and Oliver's Mount. A Green Woodpecker was seen between Hutton Buscel and Wykeham Forest and 3 Buzzards were over Yedmandale Road. A tired Spotted Flycatcher was at Scalby Nab in the early afternoon, and a female Whinchat was at Scalby Lodge Cottages. A male White Wagtail and a Wheatear were at Cromer Point water treatment works. At Long Nab there were 3 singing Grasshopper Warblers, while a Wood Sandpiper and a cream crowned Marsh Harrier flew past northwards, and 151 Swallows and 10 flava Wagtails flew south.
