Friday 1st May

8 Chiffchaffs, 3 Nuthatches, 2 Blackcaps, a Heron, a Willow Tit, a Treecreeper and a Grey Wagtail were seen in Forge Valley this morning, and a Sedge Warbler and a Willow Warbler were on Castle Hill. 4 Lesser Whitethroats were between the Chalet cafe and Scalby Nab, where the Grasshopper Warbler remains and a drake Eider flew north. A Coot was at Johnson's Marsh. South Cliff was generally quiet, with just 2 Willow Warblers and 4 Lesser Whitethroats of note present, while a Yellow Wagtail flew south and a Dunlin flew north. A Garden Warbler was seen at Givendale, where a new Willow Tit territory was identified near the farm. 2 Swifts were seen at Wilton and one at Allerston. Gristhorpe was also quiet this morning, with 2 Corn Buntings, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 3 Wheatears and a Little Egret heading south. A Peregrine was spotted heading inland and riding thermals high over the old prison. At Seamer Tip Pool there were 2 Reed Warblers (one singing), 2 Sedge Warblers, a Lesser Whitethroat and 2 pairs of Gadwall, plus broods of Mallard and Greylag. At Taylor Way pool there was a pair of Gadwall and a Reed Warbler singing. A Blackcap, a Common Sandpiper, 3 Dippers, 4 Grey Wagtails and a pair of Bullfinches were seen at Scalby Beck, and 4 Yellowhammers and 2 Dunnocks were at Limestone Road.
