Wednesday 20th May

A Turtle Dove was in trees near the Mill Inn this morning, a Cuckoo was at the Blue Dolphin, and a Spotted Flycatcher was in a Hutton Buscel garden. A Corn Bunting was singing from power lines at Long Nab, and another was singing on wires south-west of Willerby village. 2 Shelduck flew onto Seamer Tip pool but stayed only briefly, while at Wykeham South Lake there were 300+ Herring Gulls, 5 Sedge Warblers, 3 Garden Warblers, 6 Blackcaps, 3 Bullfinches, 3 Reed Warblers, a Common Sandpiper and a Wall Brown butterfly. At Jugger Howe Moor 17 Meadow Pipit, 5 Skylark and one Wheatear territories were mapped, while also seen were a male Whinchat and a Buzzard, plus a Redstart and a Cuckoo at Jugger Howe Beck, and a distant Raven calling. A male Marsh Harrier flew south at Long Nab this afternoon, and a male Hen Harrier flew north at Hutton Buscel. 2 Barnacle Geese flew south past South Cliff, and a Whimbrel and a Turnstone were on Black Rocks. A Reed Warbler and a Lesser Black-backed Gull were at the Open Air Theatre this evening, and Sandwich Terns were in North Bay. 2 Nightjars were located east of North Moor Road in Wykeham Forest, plus 4 Woodcock passes and a male Tawny Owl calling.
