Thursday 28th May

At Hilla Green this morning there were 2 Spotted Flycatchers, a Nuthatch, 2 Crossbills, 2 Tufted Duck, 18 House Martins, a pair of Bullfinches with 3 fledged young and a Dipper. A Hobby and a Cuckoo were seen at Wykeham South Lake, while this afternoon 2 Hobbys were seen thermalling high over the old prison, and a Cuckoo was seen and heard in the valley and woods just north of Jugger Howe Moor. 32 Brent Geese were seen drifting north off Marine Drive, and at Johnson's Marsh there were 8 Herons, a Coot on a nest and about 35 House Martins collecting mud. A Little Egret flew north past Long Nab, while 85 House Martins, 68 Swallows, 76 Linnets and 2 Siskins flew south and a Cuckoo was present. At Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint 2 dark phase Honey Buzzards were seen in the early afternoon and a pale phase bird was seen this morning. Also seen there this afternoon were 8 Buzzards, a Goshawk, a Siskin and a Turtle Dove singing just below the viewpoint.
