Friday 26th October

As the NW winds freshened throughout the day all eyes were on the sea. An interesting 10 hour watch at Long Nab observatory highlights being 75 Pomarine Skuas, a Sooty Shearwater, 4 Great Northern and one Black-throated Diver, a good selection of wildfowl including a Velvet Scoter and 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, waders arriving included 3 Woodcock, a Jack Snipe and 13 Snipe. Also small numbers of thrushes and Starlings were arriving off the sea plus a Snow Bunting flew over the obs. 47 Whooper Swans were at Wykeham South Lake late afternoon, 30 of which flew off south-west. In the harbour there were Shag, Cormorant, Guillemot and Great Crested Grebe. Seamer tip pool held 3 Shoveler, 14 Gadwall, 2 Wigeon, 2 Teal. A report of 4 Red-crested Pochard (3 drakes) at Burton Riggs on 20th October.
