Wednesday 17th October

Castle Hill totals included 6 Yellow-browed Warblers, 6 Chiffchaffs, Blackcap, 6 Goldcrests, 11 Song Thrush, 16 Redwings, 5 Fieldfare, 2 Brambling and 2 Twite. Two Great Crested Grebes in the harbour. Another Yellow-browed Warbler plus two Blackcaps were in a garden at Westwood Court where two Crossbills flew south.  Single Blackcaps at Sycarham Wood and Holbeck, two Coal Tits at the latter site. Skeins of Pink-footed Geese moving north were 500 over Thornton-le-Dale and 200 over Spikers Hill. A Ring Ouzel was near the radio mast at Ravenscar plus a "Commic" Tern and three Sandwich Terns on rocks below the hotel. A Short-eared Owl was on the cliffs at Scalby Mills p.m.
