hours of observation at Long Nab produced some interesting sightings today
including 14 Pink-footed Geese (N), 2 Whooper Swans (N) at 08.54 the first in
our area for the season, 28 Wigeon (7 S, 21 N), 67 Teal (5 S, 62 N), 13 Common
Scoter (N), 53 Red-throated Divers (48 S, 5 N), a Sooty Shearwater (N), 36 Manx Shearwater (7 S, 29 N), a Balearic Shearwater (N), a Red-necked Grebe (S), 107 Cormorants
(103 S, 4 N), a Whimbrel (N), 11 Sandwich Terns (4 S, 7 N), 12 Common Terns (N),
4 Arctic Terns (N) 5 Great Skuas (3 S, 2 N), 18 Arctic Skuas (6 S, 12 N) and 18
House Martins (4 S, 14 N).
Also
today 100+ House Martins were sheltering on the Sealife Centre Pyramid and a
Black-tailed Godwit flew west over Crossgates at 14.45.
