The day started with rain and northerly winds and an
increase in birds, mostly ducks, moving north past Long Nab. Highlights there
included 8 Pintail, 4 Pochard, 2 Goosanders, 494 Common Scoters, 26
Red-throated and two Great Northern Divers, a Sooty Shearwater, Mediterranean
Gull, three Sandwich and one Common Tern plus a Short-eared Owl flying high
south. Sixteen Barnacle Geese were feeding in the stubble fields. A Redwing and
two Chiffchaffs were in Crook Ness gully. Elsewhere Scalby Mills had a
Mediterranean Gull, Goldeneye, Teal and 24 Wigeon. 80 Oystercatchers, 16 Redshank
were in Jackson’s Bay and a Wheatear, 12 Skylarks and 30 Meadow Pipits were at
Cromer Point. A Water Rail was at the Open Air Theatre behind the stage. At
Seamer tip pool; adult Mediterranean Gull, 5 Gadwall and a Wigeon. The Dunlin
remains at Johnson’s Marsh. At Wykeham South Lake there were two drake Pochard
and 15 Wigeon.
