Highlights from Long Nab this morning were 30 Crossbills and a Great Northern Diver. 5 Mealy Redpolls were also caught and ringed there. Later in the day highlights included 3 Chiffchaffs and a Blackcap, with another Great Northern Diver, 9 Goosanders and a Little Gull passing. A Firecrest was seen on the north side of Castle Hill, and a Lesser Whitethroat on the south side. There were 2 Whooper Swans in the first field north of Crook Ness. 6 adult and 2 juvenile Whooper Swans were seen flying south at Wykeham South Lake, where there was also a Pochard, 31 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 25 Wigeon, 4 Goldeneye, 52 Coots, 26 Tufted Ducks and 3 Moorhens. A Green Sandpiper and a Jack Snipe were at Star Carr. A male Blackcap was spotted in Crossgates and a Waxwing at the bottom of Stepney Road. A Little Auk was seen at the south end of North Bay off Marine Drive.
