Monday 19th December

The cold spell came to a dramatic end overnight with a rapid thaw and considerable rise in temperature. Highlights south past Long Nab this morning included four Pintail, 11 Wigeon, 51 Teal and two Grey Plovers. Four Purple Sandpipers were on the rock armour in North Bay at the bottom of Chain Hill and a Grey Heron was on a garden shed roof in Stepney Road. A Shoveler was at Seamer Tip Pool and three Wigeon flew east over Seamer Tip. A Blackcap was still on Heron Lane, Crossgates. Eight Long-tailed Tits were on a garden fat ball feeder in Ravenscar and 130 Yellowhammers were in set aside in Middle Deepdale this afternoon. There was belated news of a single Waxwing in a garden in Dale Rise, Burniston on Friday.
